University of Waikato, New Zealand

The University of Waikato was founded in 1956 after Hamilton locals launched a petition for a university to serve the needs of the South Auckland region. From the beginning, it was envisaged that Māori studies should be a key feature of the new university, and the Centre for Māori Studies and Research was set up in the School of Social Sciences in 1972. In the latest 2019 QS rankings, The University of Waikato leapt more than 100 places in five years to 274th place – in the top 1.1 percent of the world's 26,000 universities.

Hamilton (Māori: Kirikiriroa) is a city in the North Island of New Zealand. It is the seat and most populous city of the Waikato region and the country's fourth most-populous city. Highlights for travellers include the excellent restaurants, bars and cafes of its biggest city, the surf and cafe scene at laid-back Raglan, and the Middle Earth vibe of the extremely popular Hobbiton film set near Matamata.
