University of Porto, Portugal

The University of Porto is the second largest Portuguese university after the University of Lisbon. A large percentage of its students are international or Erasmus, and there are plenty of activities on offer for visiting students, such as the Queima das Fitas, a large festival which originated in the city of Coimbra.

The city of Porto is a real hidden gem and an up-and-coming tourist destination, with its stunning views of colourful buildings, rich historical and cultural life and abundance of bars and nightclubs.

  • Language of teaching: primary language of teaching is Portuguese with some classes in English. UofG students should ensure that all required courses are taught in a language in which they are at least proficient at B2 level. 
  • Calendar: Teaching runs from September until December and February until July, with exams in January and June
  • Grading system: grades awarded on a scale of 0-20 (pass mark 10)

  • Nearest international airport: Porto is served by its own international airport, and from there it is very easy to get into the centre by Metro.
