How to prepare
Training always helps!
Try to get out on your bike a few times before the event and try pedalling at different speeds and gears and for different lengths of time in order to ensure you are ready. Remember to have plenty of rest before the day of the event too!
It’s a good idea to go with friends or family who will ride at your pace and make the journey much easier! If you’re struggling, change down a gear or two, relax and go at your own pace.
Eat high carbohydrate foods a few hours before the event to ensure your energy levels are at their highest. Take snacks and liquids (water or energy drinks), and stop to eat and drink before you actually feel hungry or thirsty. If you need to stop to have a rest, please do so.
Remember to ensure your bike is in good condition and has been serviced before taking part in the event. Check your tyres, gears and saddle and ensure you have the correct cycling gear.
