Centre for the Study of Islam

Welcome to the Centre for the Study of Islam The Archbishop of Canterbury, Prof. Mona Siddiqui and Sir Muir Russell at the University of Glasgow

The Centre for the Study of Islam was founded in 1998 and is based within the Department of Theology and Religious Studies at the School of Divinity. It has been established primarily to develop the field of Islamic Studies at Glasgow University and to promote a better understanding of Islam and Muslims.

The Centre offers courses at undergraduate and postgraduate levels as well as a series of seminar programmes, conferences and evening courses aimed at reflecting Islamic belief, culture and the various aspects of its intellectual tradition. Furthermore the Centre encourages links with Muslim communities concerned with the dissemination of knowledge about Islam.

The Centre also plays an essential role in consultancy and training on Islam and Muslims to various professional bodies nationally and internationally.

The Centre is rapidly expanding and developing. It is fast becoming an established and renowned centre of excellence not only in research and teaching but also with the active participation of its esteemed scholarship in the study of Islam at all levels of academia.

There are many places in the UK and beyond where you may study Islam but our special ethos of innovation and distinction here at the Centre for the Study Islam will be a challenge for you to find elsewhere.
