Mission statement
The School of Divinity in the University of Glasgow (incorporating Trinity College) has as its fundamental aim the achievement of the highest standards of teaching and research.
In the traditional disciplines of the Bible (Hebrew, Greek and English), Theology (Systematic, Philosophical and Practical) and Church History (general, reformed, Scottish and modern), it will continue to pursue excellence in academic and vocational matters; and will in addition endeavour to respond to changing circumstances particularly in the larger West of Scotland community by developing responsible strategies for teaching and research in Religious Studies (especially Islam and other religions), Religious Education and Roman Catholic Theology. In these areas the same commitment to excellence is affirmed.
Recognising that one of the key strengths of the study of Theology and Religious Studies is the diversity of disciplines and methods which it entails, and notwithstanding the importance of closely directed study, the School is committed wholeheartedly to an interdisciplinary approach to teaching, learning, research and scholarship, and will actively encourage both staff and students in this direction wherever appropriate.
