Scholarship of Teaching and Learning (SoTL) - Community section

Welcome to the Community section of beSoTLed.  This aim of this section is to support your engagement with SoTL in several ways:

  • to help you to find others who are interested in the same areas of SoTL as you, in order to facilitate possible collaborations on projects;
  • to help you to develop your engagement with SoTL by finding someone who is more experienced in SoTL than you, and/or is at a more advanced stage in their career, who would be willing share their knowledge and experience of this, and so to help you develop your SoTL skills (SoTL partnership scheme);
  • to provide a forum for organising meetings with others who are interested in discussing issues related to SoTL, or organising social events with like-minded individuals (meetings and social events).

Please do use this section, as community is an important part of an academic environment!

Collaborations
You can post notices on this page asking for collaborators to work on a particular project, or to share ideas etc. If you are looking for people to collaborate with you then you are very welcome to post information about yourself and your proposed topic, so that others can contact you if they are interested.  To post information about yourself and advertise for collaborators click here.

Here you will also find a list of people who have already posted their details, which you can search by topic, discipline etc., and if you see a project that you would be interested in collaborating in then you can contact the staff member by e-mail.  To browse the list of posts click here.

SoTL partnership scheme
Under this scheme, staff are offered the opportunity to meet with someone who has more experience in engaging with SoTL, or is at a more advanced stage in their career, for advice about SoTL, teaching and support of learning, career progression, being a University Teacher or teaching-focused member of staff, etc. - whatever is useful.  Such a partnership might be particularly useful for staff who are new to the area of SoTL, or who would like to progress further in SoTL but are not sure how to.

Anyone requiring advice from a senior partner can browse this list and so select the partner that they think would be most appropriate.  The duration of this partnership would be entirely flexible and determined by the partners themselves.  To browse the list of posts by people offering themselves as senior SoTL partners, click here.

Anyone interested in being a senior partner is encouraged to post some information about themselves and their experience of SoTL, any appropraite credentials, and also their career stage.  To offer yourself as a senior SoTL partner, click here to post information about yourself.

The same staff member can be both a senior partner in one partnership, and the junior partner in another.

Please note that the writers and moderator of this sight accept no responsibility for the quality of the support offered by anyone advertising themselves as a senior partner.

Meetings and social events
Please use this section of the site to either find out about meetings and social events that are happening, or else organise a meeting or social event.

If you want to organise a meeting then please state the purpose of the meeting and who might be particularly interested in the meeting.  You are very welcome to propose a topic for a meeting but leave the date as unscheduled until you have an idea of how many people might be interested.  A good website for deciding upon the date of a meeting that best suits most people is linked here.

Social events can be organised just for the fun of it!  Coffee, drinks, dinner etc. with like-minded people are great ways for building community.  Such events might be especially useful for those who are new to a university, or perhaps on their own in a department in terms of their interest in SoTL.
