Postgraduate Scholarships
Applications for postgraduate study in the Department, in conjunction with the completion of a supplementary Scholarship Application Form will be placed in competition for Faculty and AHRC scholarship awards. Please click here for general information on these award schemes. Applications for admission must be submitted to the University by 1 February 2010. Normally only applications which have been fully processed and students offered admission on a conditional or unconditional basis will be considered for a scholarship.
It is important to remember that these award schemes are highly competitive and that any application for Faculty/AHRC awards is assessed in a wider University context. For the approximately 5 new Faculty scholarships awarded each year, your application will stand in competition with other applications drawn from Departments across the Faculty of Arts. Similarly, applications for the current block grant allocation of 5 AHRC funded scholarships are assessed in competition with other AHRC applications across the wider School of English and Scottish Language and Literature (SESLL), taking in the Departments of English Literature, English Language and Scottish Literature. Only the very strongest applications will therefore make it onto a shortlist for final consideration.
Criteria for assessment will include the following:
- past academic achievement, including undergraduate degree classification and, if currently enrolled on a Research Preparation Masters programme, academic performance to date at the 1 February deadline for AHRC/Faculty award applications;
- strength of academic references for postgraduate study in the Department (please note that these will be assessed from your standard University application, as no new references are required for the separate AHRC/Faculty application);
- the suitability of your research project with your prospective supervisors; and how the project best reflects the particular research strengths of the Department, (English Literature, English Language and Scottish Literature) and School and wider research profile of the University of Glasgow
