Honours

The Department of Scottish Literature, which is a separate unit within the School of English Language and Literature, provides a 4-year Single Honours degree in Scottish Language and Literature (M.A.) as well as a 4-year Joint Honours degree in Scottish Literature and any other subject in the Faculty of Arts (M.A.).

This Scottish Literature Honours degree offers a unique curriculum: there is no other full-length Honours programme or equivalent in Scottish Literature anywhere else in the world. Students can select from a range of courses within the department, detailed elsewhere on this site, and write a 10,000 word research dissertation at the end of their Junior Honours year. Courses on offer cover the full historical range. A basic course on 'Scottish Literature and Theory: Texts and Contexts' is compulsory for all students.

For information on all individual Honours courses click on the 'Student Handbook' link on the right.
