Dr Gillies joined the Academic Unit of Publc Health in 2007 as a Clinical Lecturer in Chronic Disease Epidemiology and Honorary Specialist Registrar in Public Health. She is currently involved in research examining the epidemiology of airways disease in Scotland using large secondary data sets. Since joining the unit she has contributed to an ongoing body of work in the area of cardiovascular disease epidemiology with Dr MacIntyre's team. She has an interest in psychiatric epidemiology and is developing research in this area. She is currently studying for a MD. The title of her thesis is “The Surveillance of CJD in the UK: 1990 – 2006” in conjunction with clinical colleagues from the National CJD Surveillance Unit in Edinburgh.
