Dr Wilson is a graduate of University College, Swansea and the Institute of Psychiatry. She is both a health psychologist and a neuropsychologist. Within the Faculty of Medicine she contributes to teaching at undergraduate level for the BDS, BN, BSc (Med Sci) Clinical Medicine and MBChB degrees. She is also Deputy Director for Clinical Communication within the School of Medicine. At postgraduate level she contributes to the DClinPsy, MSc (Med Sci), Clinical Neuropsychology and the PhD programme.
Current and recent research includes:- a survey of the methods of individual health promotion used for patients with type 2 diabetes in the community;
Perceptions of illness and barriers to disease self-management amongst Chinese patients in Scotland with Type 2 diabetes mellitus and/or coronary heart disease;
Applying health psychology within the context of disability including exploration of the development of sexual understanding by young people with mild intellectual disabilties.
Current educationally-related research includes:- the development, production and evaluation of film material for teaching clinical communication skills to dental skills; also evaluation of the use of simulated patient interactions in the teaching of clinical communication skills to dental students.
Recent and current research projects have been funded by NHS R&D, the Chief Scientists's Office, the Bailey Thomas Trust and Glasgow University Learning and Teaching Fund.
