The Department of Physics and Astronomy

Welcome to the Department of Physics and Astronomy at the University of Glasgow, one of the leading departments in the UK both for our internationally leading research and our first rate undergraduate degrees.

Undergraduate Studies

We offer a range of single honours and combined honours MSci and BSc degrees.  Our teaching quality has been highly rated both externally and internally, including in recent newspaper surveys of undergraduate courses, and our courses are fully accredited by the Institute of Physics.

National Student Survey Logo

In the 2009 National Student Survey 100% of our graduating students awarded Glasgow Physics & Astronomy top ratings for the overall quality of their course

Times Online Logo

Research and Postgraduate Studies

In the 2008 Governmental assessment, our department was judged to be in the top four of Physics and Astronomy Departments in the UK's major research-intensive Universities, the Russell Group.  This makes Glasgow an exciting place to work and to study either as an undergraduate or as a PhD student in one of our world-leading research groups.  Teaching, research and  postgraduate training further benefits from our collaboration with five other Scottish University Physics departments through SUPA, the Scottish Universities' Physics Alliance.
