Welcome to Nursing & Health Care

Nursing HomepageNursing & Health Care aims to provide leadership in multi-professional healthcare research, education and practice at local, national and international levels. Our academic ethos is research-led, facilitates the skills required for lifelong learning and has the patient/client as the focus of health care. Our staff and graduates continue to make significant contributions to evidence based quality health care in the 21st century.

Nursing was established in 1978 at the University of Glasgow with the aim of producing Graduate Nurses who were grounded in health related scientific theory. Nursing & Health Care has expanded over the years and we offer a range of programmes including Undergraduate and Postgraduate education along with Continuing Professional Development (CPD) courses. Our Postgraduate and CPD courses are multi-disciplinary and open to all health care professionals.

Nursing & Health Care is committed to evidence based practice and its research is grounded in clinical practice. As part of the Graduate School of the Faculty of Medicine, we offer a comprehensive research training programme to our students. Our research graduates have gone on to lead positions across Scotland and the UK as well as within Europe and elsewhere. Research applications are welcome at any point in the year.

Nursing & Health Care are delighted with their RAE results (Research Assessment Exercise) announced December 18th, 2008. With their HealthQWest partners, Nursing and Health Care are rated joint 7th in the UK and joint 1st in Scotland according to the Times Higher Education Table of Excellence for Unit of Assessment 12.
