Welcome to the Department of Music

Welcome to Scotland’s leading centre for musical research, with 65% of our work recognised as world leading or internationally excellent. We cover a broad range of areas, with particular specialisms in Historical and Cultural Musicology (Modernity in Musical Cultures; Scottish Music & Musicians); Performance & Performance Studies; Composition; Sonic Arts & Music Technology; and Popular Music Studies.

Situated in a fine terraced house close to the centre of campus and at the heart of Glasgow's cosmopolitan West End, the Department is ideally located for easy access to the huge range of music taking place in this UNESCO City of Music.

Our wide-ranging undergraduate courses allow students to focus on their particular interests, whilst equipping them with the skills necessary for postgraduate study, the musical and music-related professions, and for the host of other career options that music graduates enjoy. We also have a vibrant postgraduate community, and offer stimulating taught and research programmes at postgraduate level. To find out more, take a look at our undergraduate and postgraduate study pages.
