Approaching
the Sandaig Islands. A group of 5 tourists in matching brand new country
jackets, boots and walking poles said,
"What a lovely way to arrive."
I asked if they were visitors or locals.
"We are just visiting."
" You will need to watch the tide then, that sandbar is only showing 6" and its coming in fast."
"Thank you"
Much later, they had to get their new boots wet...
The
site of Gavin
Maxwell's Camusfearna, where he wrote "Ring of Bright Water." He
was less fond of basking sharks than otters. He had earlier set up a shark
fishery on Soay. Although you can still find otters at Sandaig, Maxwell's
otter Edal otter was actually an Iraqi marsh otter! Both Edal's grave and
Maxwell's grave are nearby. Maxwell's is marked by a large boulder that marks
the position of his writing desk in the house. No trace of the house remains.
Gavin
Maxwell's house at Sandaig was completely destroyed by fire in 1966. He moved to
Eilean Ban near Kyle of Lochalsh but died in 1968. His grave at Sandaig is
visited by the many lovers of his books.

Heading
home, a lovely long period swell had picked up driven in by the approaching
Atlantic low pressure system that brought wind and torrential rain the next day.
A
cold head wind slowed our return up the loch.

Home
in the dark, until the moon came up. Its silvery path guided us due east to
Corran. The "spark" to the right of Jim is Jennifer's strobe going
off.
Yes
it was dark by the time we got back!
We landed at 18:08, left at 18:54 and were back in Glasgow at 11:00.
Another fine day in paradise, brought to you courtesy of the WWW!
