PhD in Medical Genetics
The University of Glasgow
Department of Medical Genetics
A small number of PhD places may be available in each of the laboratory
sections of the Institute of Genetics. Much of the work of these laboratories
is directly related to patient care and thus students have access to clinical
material and the projects are often highly relevant to and may be immediately
applicable to the practice of medical genetics. Students who graduate from
the department's MSc in medical genetics, at a satisfactory
level, have priority access to PhD places. Students wishing direct entry
to PhD study should contact one of the supervisors below, before
submitting an application form.
Biochemical and screening genetics: Dr David Aitken, D.Aitken@clinmed.gla.ac.uk
Cytogenetics: Mr Gordon
Lowther, Gordon.Lowther@yorkhill.scot.nhs.uk
Developmental genetics of maternal and fetal medicine: Dr. Fiona
Lyall, gqta01@udcf.gla.ac.uk
Molecular genetics: Dr Maureen Boxer, M.Boxer@yorkhill.scot.nhs.uk
