Sraiton to Aitkenhead Bridge: 8.31km, 59 metre drop. This needs a lot of water, at the takeout all rocks should be well covered. Sustained Grade3 section of drops over sandstone ledges in Tranew Gorge preceded by long but scenic Grade 1/2 section (after the initial drops at Milton) past Blairquan Castle to the start of the Gorge. Put in at NS376049 take out at NS344079. Time: 2.5 to 3 hours. Hazards: The Slot at the right of the first major ledge and Tranew Linn below it may be inspected together. Watch out for trees. There was (30/11/03) a particularly large fallen tree across the river about half a kilometre before the take out, we passed the root end on river right.
