Konstantinos graduated from the Higher Technological Educational Institute of Thessaloniki, Greece in 1999 with a 1st class degree in Human Nutrition and Dietetics. After 15 months in weight management dietetics he gained a full time postgraduate scholarship from the Greek State Scholarship Foundation and in 2004 he completed his MSc (MedSci) in Human Nutrition, Clinical Specialisation at the University of Glasgow. In 2009 he gained his PhD working in conjunction with the Department of Paediatric Gastroenterology, Hepatology and Nutrition, on the effect of exclusive enteral nutrition on the nutritional status and bacterial microbiota of Crohn’s disease children. During his postdoctoral research he was appointed as Project Researcher in Paediatric Nutrition by NHS Greater Glasgow & Clyde where he contributed to the development, and validation of the Paediatric Yorkhill Malnutrition Score. Following that he was postdoctoral research associate in University of Glasgow and in October 2009 he joined Human Nutrition to contribute to the curriculum of the Human Nutrition, Clinical Specialisation and to expand his research.
Research
Konstantinos’ research interests focus on the role of diet and enteral nutrition on the intestinal microbiota and intervention using probiotics and prebiotics. He is also interested in the nutritional status, body composition, and micronutrient status in gastrointestinal disorders and in the assessment of malnutrition risk in paediatric and adult hospitalised patients.
