Dr Rob Maslen is a Senior Lecturer in English Literature. Since joining the department in 1992 he has published two books, Elizabethan Fictions (Oxford, 1997) and Shakespeare and Comedy (Arden, 2005), completed two editions of early modern texts, and written a number of essays about sixteenth-century literature and twentieth-century fantasy and science fiction. He continues to work on Renaissance literature, and on fantasy from earliest times to the present.

Dr Maslen has supervised theses on representations of Islam and Muslims in early modern drama; English and French prose fiction of the seventeenth century; Victorian fantastic literature and art; twentieth-century fantasy and modernism; the Irish fantasy writer Lord Dunsany; and creative writing. Since 2000 he has taught on the Glasgow MLitt in Creative Writing.
