Postgraduate Studies
The aims of the postgraduate programmes on offer in the Department of Educational Studies and, more widely, in the Faculty of Education, are in accord with the University’s mission of providing ‘education through the development of learning in a research environment’.
The Department has a robust, active and expanding research portfolio with national and international expertise in the following areas:
- science and technology education;
- teacher education and socialisation;
- citizenship and values education;
- assessment; work-based learning;
- inclusion, access and additional support needs;
- educational leadership and management;
- policy studies in education.
This research feeds directly into the Department’s taught programmes, at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels. With its extensive and long-established and active links with schools, local authorities and the Scottish Executive, the Department’s initial and postgraduate teacher education programmes also play a significant part in the realization of the wider institutional goal of sustaining and adding value to Scottish culture and society as well as the wider international market.
As part of its widening participation strategy, the Department drives the Glasgow Access to Primary Teacher Education Project (GAPTE), which encourages students from non-traditional backgrounds to enter the teaching profession.
Information on how to apply for a PG programme and for general support for the application process can be found at the Postgraduate Study site.
