PhD in Economics
Departmental staff specialise in the areas of international finance, macroeconomics, financial economics, development economics and regional economics and we can offer PhD supervision for research projects in a wide range of topics in these key areas. Potential students can gauge from the research interests page of this web site the topics that are being actively researched in the department. However, supervision may be offered in a broader range of topics than those listed.
We currently have an active doctoral research programme with 37 PhD students working on a variety of topics. As a PhD student at Glasgow, you will have opportunities to:
- present and discuss your work in progress with colleagues and staff members within the departmental workshop programme for PhD students
- attend the department’s research seminars
- take advanced MSc courses, such as Advanced Econometrics, in order to develop your skills
- become a Teaching Fellow, delivering tutorials to first and second year undergraduates
Full-time students have their own designated office and are provided with their own PC.
This PhD programme is research-based (i.e. does not include compulsory taught courses). You will be allocated a supervisor who has expertise in your proposed area of study and who will offer guidance and advice throughout the three years of study.
