Background

Studied Economics in the National University of Iran (BSc). Continued postgraduate studies at the University of Birmingham in the UK and was awarded the degree of PhD in 1976. Joined the University of Glasgow in 1980 and has been a research collaborator with a number of international organisations. Served as the Director of the Centre for Development Studies and subsequently as Head of Department from 2004-2009. Elected as a fellow of the Human Development and Capability Association (HDCA) in 2007 in recognition of his significant contribution to research in the field of human development.
