Professional interests

Dr Domenico Gallipoli joined the University of Glasgow as a Senior Lecturer in Civil Engineering in March 2007. He held previous academic appointments as Lecturer of Civil Engineering at Durham University in the UK (2002-2007) and as the recipient of an individual "Marie Curie" Fellowship at the Universitat Politécnica de Catalunya in Spain (2000-2002). Before that, he obtained a PhD degree in 2000 from the University of Glasgow following graduation as a Civil Engineer in 1996 from the University of Naples "Federico II" in Italy.

Dr Gallipoli’s research interests lie in the broad area of soil mechanics and encompass laboratory testing, constitutive modelling and computational investigation. One long-standing research interest of Dr Gallipoli relates to the fundamental engineering behaviour of soils with particular emphasis on constitutive modelling of unsaturated soils including both mechanical and hydraulic aspects. He has also implemented constitutive models in finite element codes for the analysis of geotechnical boundary value problems accounting for the coupled behaviour of deformation and pore gas/liquid flow.
