Professional interests

Caetano Dorea joined the University of Glasgow in 2007. He graduated in Civil Engineering from the Universidade de Brasilia (Brasilia, Brazil) and later pursued a MSc. and Ph.D. from the University of Surrey (Guildford, UK). Previous to his current Lectureship he was a Research Fellow at the analytical chemistry labs of the Environmental Bureau of Health Canada (Ottawa, Canada). During and in between his research studies and appointments, Caetano has also done a significant amount public health engineering work with both with NGO’s and as a private consultant in several countries such as Brazil, Rwanda, Haiti, Indonesia, and Pakistan.

His research interests are in chemical and (micro)biological water and wastewater treatment processes. He has several published works in water treatment for developing countries and in humanitarian emergencies. In addition, he has focused on issues relating to the presence of aluminium residuals such as its occurrence and mitigation in water treatment and the impact of metal salt coagulants on biological treatment processes. More recently, his research interests have also included microbial fuel cells and sustainable urban drainage systems (SUDS).
