Postgraduate Programmes

Adult and Continuing Education is currently at the forefront of Scottish and UK government policy. Lifelong Learning is seen as a key principle of the workplace, education in school and beyond, and in voluntary organisations. More equitable distribution of learning opportunities is a central objective in meeting a more just society. Adult education is playing a key role in developing understandings of, and responding to, the challenges posed by the (post)modern world.

These postgraduate programmes provide a rigorous introduction to the main theoretical and practical approaches to the study of adult education. The programmes are particularly attractive and relevant to those with a professional involvement in the education and training of adults or those aspiring to join the field of adult education. By encouraging our students to develop their powers of critical thinking, we aim to ensure that they not only understand their world but also can begin to change it.
