Teacher Training in EFL
The Language Centre EFL Unit runs courses from introductory to postgraduate level and provides specialist in-service training. We are a centre for the recognised entry qualification, the Cambridge CELTA, and offers pre- and post-experience masters in English Language teaching in association with the School of Education. We also teach credit-bearing undergraduate courses in the School of Modern Languages and Cultures and elsewhere.

Introduction to TESOL
This 20-hour course (part-time over 10 weeks) is intended for those who would like to find out about teaching English to speakers of other languages (TESOL), for general interest or before deciding to do a qualification such as the Cambridge CELTA (see the information on Professional qualifications).

Undergraduate options
We currently teach undergraduate options in both the School of Modern Languages & Cultures and in English Language: see the information in the Undergraduate section.
Certificate in English Language Teaching to Adults (CELTA)
The Cambridge UCLES Certificate course is an industry-standard entry course for teaching English to speakers of other languages. It is a 120-hour course, with a strong practical focus. It is offered both full-time intensive over 4 weeks and part-time over 12 weeks.

Diploma in English Language Teaching to Adults (DELTA)
We are also a registered centre for Modules One and Three of the Cambridge ESOL DELTA (the advanced professional companion to the CELTA). Candidates can enter for each module through the centre but at present we do not run any supporting courses. There is a small adminstration charge in addition to the examination fee itself.

Teaching English as a Foreign Language (for students of SMLC)
This is a 20-credit senior undergraduage option currently offered to honours students of the School of Modern Languages and Cultures. It complements the linguistic knowledge and language year-abroad experience of students taking degrees in modern foreign languages.
Culture and English Language Teaching (for students of English Language)
This is a senior undergraduage option available to students of English Language (within the School of Critical Studies). It focuses on the theory and practice of Intercultural Communication alongside the basic skills of English Language Teaching.

Masters Level
In association with the University's School of Education, we offer two different masters courses.
Pre-experience: MSc Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages (TESOL)
for those with a degree qualification in English, Education or similar subject who are interested in a career as an English language teacher but who have limited or no teaching experience.
Post-experience: MEd Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages (TESOL), (formerly MEd ELT)
for those with a first degree in English, education or a relevant subject, plus a teaching qualification or two years' teaching experience.
Students take core courses in both Education and ELT, and can take further options both in ELT or from the School of Education's own selection.
Students on the MSc in English Language & English Linguistics: Applied also take options from the Language Centre's English language teaching courses.

Teacher Training Methodology & Advanced Language Development
We can offer a variety of in-service training programmes for overseas teachers of English:
- for groups or individuals
- via short courses or more extended programmes
- for teaching here in Glasgow or by distance education or teaching at a client's own site.
