The course provides an introduction to Mathematics, focusing on key skills and ideas essential to Level 1 courses in Sciences, Engineering and Finance/Accountancy.

Four best marks of five 30-minute timed unit set exercises (17.5% each)

60-minute compulsory summary timed set exercise (30%)

Course Aims

To enable students to expand their basic Mathematics understanding and develop academic literacies needed for Level 1 undergraduate study in Science, Engineering and Finance/Accountancy.

Intended Learning Outcomes of Course

By the end of this course students will be able to:

■ Explain the concepts involved in basic mathematical ideas (e.g. function, real number, derivative)

■ Solve mathematical problems involving skills in algebra, trigonometry, functions, integral and differential calculus, sequences and series, vectors, as needed for Level 1 Science, Engineering and Finance/Accountancy courses.

Minimum Requirement for Award of Credits

Students must submit at least 75% by weight of the components (including examinations) of the course's summative assessment.
