Despite today's tough economic climate a recent study carried out by London Economics has highlighted the continued value of undertaking professional qualifications and postgraduate study. According to the study, individuals who undertake such qualifications may see a 9% increase in their long-term employability and can earn up to 37% more than their colleagues who only have an undergraduate degree - or around £152,000 over a lifetime.
Commenting on this study in an interview for the Guardian Mike Petrook from the Chartered Management Institute cites the view of employers that such qualifications will only increase in importance over the next five years as they provide an increasingly necessary means of distinguishing between applicants. His views are supported by annual graduate destination data which shows significantly higher rates of employment amongst University of Glasgow taught and research postgraduates.
