Are you interested in learning more about Peer Reviewing and Scholarly Book Reviewing for academic journals?

Workshops on both these subjects are being offered to College of Arts and Social Sciences postgraduates by the University's online postgraduate journals eSharp and The Kelvingrove Review. You will find details of each and how to sign up below.

Peer Reviewing:

Peer reviewing is an important academic skill. eSharp's training workshop will teach you all the skills necessary to become a successful peer reviewer including: what to look for when reviewing an article, how to provide constructive feedback to authors, and how to compose reports for editors.

Scholarly Book Reviewing:

After the success of previous workshops, The Kelvingrove Review, an online journal for academic book reviews, is pleased to offer postgraduates in the Faculty of Arts another training and publication opportunity. Publication is a crucial factor in today's academic employability, and scholarly book reviews are one of the key entry points into the publication cycle for postgraduates. During this two-part course you will learn about how to write academic book reviews and produce one of your own.

Workshop A: Writing a Scholarly Book Review This is an information session with handouts and practical exercises. It will run twice, participants from both sessions continuing to Workshop B in December.

  • Monday 24 October, 2-4pm: Sir Alexander Stone, Room 303.
  • Thursday 27 October, 2-4pm: Sir Alexander Stone, Room 303.

Workshop B: Editing Your Book Review

This session runs one month after Workshop 1, by which time you will have written your own 1000 word book review with online support from the tutors via Moodle.
