Microarray Service

The Microarray Service headed by Dr Pawel Herzyk has eight years experience working with gene arrays and over this time SHWFGF has become an important microarray facility in Scotland. We run microarray experiments using various platforms but our expertise is particularly highly appreciated regarding the Affymetrix GeneChip platform.

We have performed over 4000 hybridisations to 3'expression, WholeTranscript Gene and Exon as well as Tiling arrays, using RNA/DNA samples from a wide range of sources, covering projects ranging from 2 chip pilot experiments to large projects with more than 80 arrays. We have contributed greatly to developing new methods for microarray data analysis by co-designing GlaMA (Glasgow Microarrays Analysis), a new way of analysing simple microarray experiments. The software developed has been used in various institutions all over the world. Using this approach we have designed and implemented a unique fully automated data analysis FunAlyse pipeline that has become part of our Affymetrix service.

In conclusion, we are a facility that provides excellent service and shows unique creativity in issues concerning all steps from experiment design to data analysis.
