What are Industrial Partnership Phds?

The College of Medicine Veterinary Medicine and Life Sciences Industrial Partnership PhD programme allow industry and academics to work on projects of mutual benefit for business development and research advancement.

What are the benefits?

Some of the projects already supported help industry by focussing on:

  • Cost reduction innovations
  • New product development
  • Product testing for quality control
  • Product testing for enhancements

The University will part fund these Industrial Partnership PhD and aims to attract as many partners as possible. It will do this by offering two funding amounts which are based on organisational size.

Funding for large organisations

i.e. non-Small to Medium Sized Enterprise (SME)

£99,000 £49,500 £49,500

These assume indicative fees recommended by RCUK (Feb 2012 update) from 2013.
Non-SME contribution is at least 50% costs as any enhancements are funded by the industry partner.

Funding for SMEs

i.e. with fewer than 250 employees and turnover equal, or under €50m

£99,000 £66,000 £33,000

As above with SME contribution at least 33% and covering any additional enhancements.
