We are seeking a self-motivated individual to work on a non-invasive research project aimed at developing new statistical methods for the control of nematode parasites, in conjunction with The Donkey Sanctuary. The one year project starting in December 2012 will involve analysis of large datasets using computationally complex statistical methods, and production of practical guidelines for parasite control to be used in the field. The project will also involve discussion of the study findings with colleagues in The Donkey Sanctuary, with consideration to the welfare implications of the results. Background in applied statistics, quantitative ecology or similar required, previous experience with statistical modeling and/or computer programming would be an advantage. Submission for the degree of MSc is expected. Successful applicant will be working within the Boyd Orr Centre for Population and Ecosystem Health (http://www.gla.ac.uk/boydorr/), so will be exposed to wider research interests and opportunities including potential PhD projects.
