This award, lead by Prof Rhian Touyz and co-directed by Prof Andrew Baker and Prof Godfrey Smith, covers six research themes:
- Vascular Pathophysiology and Therapy
- Heart Research
- Diabetes, Renal Endocrine and Metabolic Medicine
- Genetics, Genomics and Systems Medicine Research
- Clinical Trials and Implementation Research
- Cardiac and Vascular Regeneration

Supervisors are drawn from a wide range of areas. There is an intensive first year of training in research techniques and theory plus three research placements culminating in the award of an MRes. This is followed by a 3 year PhD research project. Scholarships are available to outstanding students from broad ranging disciplines.
Stipend rates start at £19,919 per annum.
