Vegan Food @ University of Glasgow:

26th November 2009: This page is due for an update! In the meantime, this year's Hospitality Services Christmas menu is at Christmas 2009.

The Vegan Society has done much to change food policy in the University and we are delighted at the response and commitment of Hospitality Services. The University now has an official commitment to cater for vegans as this article in the News Letter states (February 2007, p. 24). Indeed, the University recently applied to the UK Vegan Society for accreditation through its "Sunflower Standard" and, on 5 July 2007, it was accredited. It is the first University in Britain to apply and receive it. This made headlines
in the University News Pages and in the Scotsman.

The University runs a large number of catering venues around the University. All are open to the public. Details of locations and opening hours are here. Further details of the main venue, One A The Square, and the vegan food served at it are below.

The new Hub/Fraser Building has introduced its own 15-dish vegan hot food menu cycle from the second semester of 2008-9. Details at Hub/Fraser cycle.

News: Christmas lunch 2008 (with vegan options) available from 1A The Square on Tuesday 18 and Wednesday 19 November 2008.

All soup and flapjacks are vegan in all locations.
In addition, many of the locations should be stocking the following vegan food in July and August 2007:

Sandwiches:
Hummus with Roasted Onions and Toasted Sesame Seed
Red Lentil Dahl with Indian Spices and Cucumber
Summer Tossed Salad with Cheddar Style Scheese

Wraps:
Lentil Dahl

Salads:
Hummus with Olive Tapenade

Fruit:
Grapes
Melon and Pineapple
Fruit Salad

Smoothies (made with Soya Milk):

In addition, The Brasserie: One A, The Square (OATS) has hot and cold vegan food everyday. Opening hours are 8.30am - 2.30pm. The latest vegan menu:

The University is re-developing the Hub to house a central "One Stop Shop" pulling together the University's wide range of front-line student services. On the frequently asked  questions page of the Hub website we are told that "The HUB will have a food court, with seating for 400, comprising self-service sit-down facilities with a variety of meal options.  When possible, locally sourced fresh produce and fair trade items will be made available. The University's food outlets have recently won accreditation by Eat Scotland, and have receved a Sunflower Award from the Vegan Society." (September 2007) In addition, in response to a direct question about whether there would be vegan food provided at the new Hub the Campus Services Director said, "In short the answer is 'yes'.We intend to roll out an identical level of service in relation to the good work already in place through close cooperation with the Vegan Society." (August 2007)
