ANIMAL WELFARE: SCIENTIFIC RESEARCH BODIES AND ORGANISATIONS


ANTIDOTE EUROPE is a scientific committee of researchers and medical professionals whose aim is to promote advances in biology and toxicology for the benefit of human health and safety. Antidote-Europe has no political, philosophical or religious affiliations.

BIOPTA specialises in human tissue bioassays, early detection of adverse cardiovascular risk factors and measurements of vascular function during clinical trials. Their rationale is "proof of concept in man."

THE CENTRE FOR MATHEMATICAL MEDICINE comprises members of the University of Nottingham who use mathematics to provide insights into biomedical phenomena. They aim to promote the application of mathematical modelling to medicine and the biomedical sciences, and to stimulate multi-disciplinary research through workshops, seminars and information-sharing.

THE COCHRANE COLLABORATION is an international non-profit and independent organisation, dedicated to making up-to-date, accurate information about the effects of healthcare readily available worldwide. It produces and disseminates systematic reviews of healthcare interventions and promotes the search for evidence in the form of clinical trials and other studies of interventions.

DLRM: DOCTORS AND LAWYERS FOR RESPONSIBLE MEDICINE
, formerly DBAE (Doctors in Britain against Animal Experiments), was founded in 1990. Its objective is the immediate and total abolition of all animal experiments, on medical and scientific grounds.


EUROPEANS FOR MEDICAL PROGRESS is an independent, non-profit-making organisation of scientists and medical professionals. Their goal is to protect human health by promoting human-specific medical research. They support mainstream science-based medical research and patient care. They focus on rigorous scientific analysis of animal experimentation to assess the balance of help or harm to human health.

HEALTHY SKEPTICISM is an international non-profit organisation whose main aim is to improve health by reducing harm from misleading drug promotion.


InterNICHE is a global network of students and teachers campaigning for progressive science education, whose focus is animal use and alternatives within biological science, medical and veterinary medical education.

THE ITALIAN ANTIVIVISECTION SCIENTIFIC COMMITTEE aims to coordinate the efforts of Italian doctors and scientists who share the conviction that the fight against animal experiments is a major scientific issue because animal testing is a serious methodological error which misleads and hampers medical progress and research.

THE JAMES LIND ALLIANCE is a coalition of organisations representing patients and clinicians collaborating to confront important uncertainties about the effects of treatments.

THE MEDICAL RESEARCH MODERNISATION COMMITTEE is a US-based health advocacy group composed of physicians, scientists and other health care professionals who evaluate the benefits, risks and costs of medical research methods and technologies.

THE NATIONAL PATIENT SAFETY AGENCY is a Special Health Authority created in July 2001 to co-ordinate efforts in Britain to report, and more importantly to learn from mistakes and problems that affect patient safety.

NOFREELUNCH is an international organisation seeking to change the current relationship between the health professions and the pharmaceutical industry. This relationship is based on hospitality and patronage which is unknown and undeclared to the general public. Without action we will continue with the relentless medicalisation of society and further erode our collective sense of wellbeing.

THE (Ferrater Mora) OXFORD CENTRE FOR ANIMAL ETHICS
pioneering ethical perspectives on animals through academic research, teaching and publication.
 
PHARMAGENE is a drug discovery company whose aim is to provide better drug discovery based on the use of human biological information.

PHYSICIANS FOR RESPONSIBLE MEDICINE

THE PHYSIOME PROJECT tries to understand and describe quantitatively the human organism, its physiology and pathophysiology, and to use this understanding to build and improve upon computational 'models', with the aim of improving human health.

SCIENTISTS FOR GLOBAL RESPONSIBILITY is an independent UK-based organisation of about 850 natural and social scientists, engineers, IT professionals and architects, providing a support network for ethically-concerned professionals in these fields.   It promotes ethical science, design and technology and carries out research, education, and lobbying centred around the military, environmental and political aspects of science, design and technology.

WORSTPILLS.ORG is maintained by a division of Public Citizen: a nonprofit, nonpartisan public interest group in the USA. A primary focus is working to ban or relabel unsafe or ineffective drugs and to encourage greater transparency and accountability in the drug approval process.

HUMANE RESEARCH TRUST raises the necessary finance to fund and promote pioneering medical research into human disease without the use of animals of animal tissue. The aim is to eliminate the need for animals in human medical research.


LORD DOWDING FUND FOR HUMANE RESEARCH GRANTS offers financial support for a wide range of scientific and educational projects.

THE FARM ANIMAL WELFARE COUNCIL is an independent advisory body established by the Government in 1979. Its terms of reference are to keep under review the welfare of farm animals on agricultural land, at market, in transit and at the place of slaughter; and to advise the Government of any legislative or other changes that may be necessary.

MOSSBURN ANIMAL SANCTUARY rescue and shelter misused, abused, unwanted and neglected animals, and provide therapeutic work placements for children and adults with problems. Their aim is to enhance the lives of both animals and people through their animal rescue work.
