Glasgow has been very successful in the Championships since GUSC was founded in 2002.
In 2001-2002, Glasgow obtained a BUSA ranking of 7 after reaching the semi-finals of the Team Event.
On an individual level, two Glasgow players namely Andrew Booth and Raymond Li reached the semi- finals
of the individual Championship. Consequently, these 2 players carried BUSA seedings of 2 and 3 respectively
into the 2002-2003 event.
In the 2002-2003 Championships, Glasgow achieved their best ever result by reaching the final. For the second
consecutive year Raymond Li reached the semi finals, and for only the second time in the history
of the event, a player, namely GUSC Captain Andrew Booth, scored a century break. Glasgow
then obtained a BUSA ranking of 3.
In 2003-2004 Glasgow were crowned the British Universities Champions and obtained a seeding of 1. To find out more on BUSA 2004 click here.
In 2004-2005 Glasgow team won the bronze medal and Stephen Smith won the silver medal for the individual event. Glasgow is now ranked 3rd in BUSA for 2006.
In 2005-2006 Glasgow A team continued their run in BUSA but lost in the quarter finals to the eventual winner in the team event.
In 2006-2007 Glasgow A and B team both have to qualify for the main event but Glasgow A team had no problem, winning all their games and qualifed as first in the group. After two group stages in the main event, Glasgow A reached the semi-finals of the team event. Glasgow will be going into next year's event ranked 5th.
In 2007-2008 Glasgow unfortunately could only manage to enter 1 team at the BUSA championships in Leeds due to late player withdrawals. With our make shift team it turned out to be a successful weekend. Despite our captain and "role model" jeffery chow failing to secure a single frame in the main tournament, the team recovered to win the Shield event. Our trophy and medals are on display in the GUU Billiards Hall cabinet.
2008/2009 should bring further success as several promising players have made this year's snooker ladder very competitive.
