The GUSC Hall of Fame & FriendsGUSC logo

Everyone knows that being able to develop a winning formula from a scrapheap requires the existence of several handy players and GUSC has ceratinly had plenty of these. So in true Glasgow fashion the Club would like to highlight them. In alphabetical order:

Andrew 'Ton Machine' Booth

Andrew at Home Nations 2004
HB Competitive: 100
HB Practice: 127
Andrew was the person for whom Glasgow University ultimately owes the Snooker Club. With his vision back at the end of 2001, and with the help of his committee, he turned what was a forgotten presence in British Universities Snooker into the force it is today. He took time to run a Snooker Competition in the GUU every Wednesday, remedies the problems raised by any GUSC members and ensures the smooth running of the Club. He is a keen enthusiast when it comes to playing the game too. He was the BUSA representative for snooker in Scotland and selected the Scotland National Student Team. Impressively, his highest competitive break is 100 and in 2003 he was seeded at No. 2 in Britain. He is also the double Glasgow University Singles Champion having won the title in 2002 and 2003, and holds a trophy for being the Doubles champion of 2003. For his achievements he was awarded a University Blue.

Gareth 'That'll be the match then' Evans

Gareth at Home Nations 2004

What superlatives can encompass the most charismatic player ever to set foot in the Glasgow Snooker Team? Gareth was an inspiration in leading the new generation of Glasgow Snooker towards British Universities success. In 2002 - 2003 the mighty Evans, a proud Welshman and father of two, captained the Glasgow 'A' team to the semi- finals of the championship thus propelling the team from being unseeded outsiders to Number 7 seeds. In his spare time, Gareth loves nothing more than spending time with Ceri and his kids, playing golf and poker.

Raymond 'StingRay' Li

The Messiah
HB Competitive: 63
HB Practice: 102
Without a doubt the most successful Scottish University player in the history of British Universities Snooker. Raymond is the only Scottish player ever to become the BUSA Singles Champion, doing so in 2004. He was also seeded No. 1 in the event. He has represented Scotland 4 times in his career and won the GUU weekly competition more than most have entered! He was also an integral part of the victorious Glasgow team of 2004. For all these accolades Raymond was awarded a Univesity Blue. Raymond also topped off 2004 by claiming the 2004 Glasgow University Singles title with a devastating display. In his spare time, Raymond like to sample good Chinese food, spend time with his other half and play poker.

Gordan McCall

Gordon

HB Practice: ??
after romping home to Gold with Glasgow 'A' in 2004 with an unbeaten display. A keen worker on his line-ups, Gordon can frequently be found in the snooker hall quoting the phrase,"I've just missed a straight black for fifty....."!! Gordon continued on from his terrific form last year and was part of the Glasgow A Team again in 2005 which did very well in reaching the semi finals of BUSA and picking up bronze medals. Gordon is also a very keen hockey player, and he takes his role as Treasurer of the hockey club equally as seriously as captaining the snooker team. It can honestly be said that under no circumstances would Gordon ever be seen gambling away the hockey club's money at poker in the early hours of the night!!!!!!! Along with many other of the snooker lads, Gordon has played a very important role in helping the Glasgow A Team to success at pool as well - Scottish University Champions 2005 and reaching the semi finals of the British Universities Team Event too.

Colin Ferguson

Colin

HB Practice: ??
Superstar Colin Ferguson arrived on the scene only in 2003 and made an immediate impact in the weekly tournament by trouncing Big G-Mac in the first round, significantly with several reds remaining on the table! That same year Ferguson became part of the Glasgow Snooker B Team which picked up bronze medals at BUSA and he also reached the semi finals of the Junior Individual Singles. Ferguson continued his good form in 2004 with an impressive run at Home Nations, giving a good account of himself and winning 5 of his 12 frames. Most notably he recorded a 2-1 win against Welshman and BUSA finalist Alex Donne. A successful year was completed as he teamed up with Mark McBride to win the Glasgow University Snooker - Doubles Championship (current holders!). This year Colin Fersuson continued to improve and he played a vital role in helping Glasgow A to the semi finals of British Universities in 2005, winning 12 out of his 14 frames played. An out and out snooker player you may think...you are wrong...Scottish University Eight-Ball Pool Singles Champion 2005 and part of the winning Scottish University Team in the shape of Glasgow A!

Christian 'Killa' Killow

Killa
HB Competitive: 36
HB Practice: ?
Christian was been a member of the Committee when the Club was founded. He came to Glasgow as a mature student, and the Club trusted him implicitly with its bank account. When not working on his PhD in Gravitational Waves, he was regularly found competing in the Wednesday night competitions. In 2003, Christian was an integral part of the Glasgow 'A' team who were runners-up at the BUSA Championships and qualified to represent the unbeaten Scotland Nations Team of 2003. He has a highest competitive break of 36 and a personal best of 22 fags/frame. In his spare time, and any other time, Christian enjoys filling the Billiard Hall with Rizla fumes and drinking beer.

Stewart Scott

Stewart
HB Competitive: ??
HB Practice: ??
Stewart has excelled in his busy task of being secretary of the club. He played a very important role in the Snooker B Team this year, playing and winning the final frames of many of the team's important matches. No doubt that he plays his best stuff when his back is against the wall! However, Stewart is most famed for being the main man behind the taking off of the pool side of the club. This is where his main ambitions lie, and he was a very proud member of the Glasgow Pool Team which reached the semi finals of the British Univeristies Pool Team Event in 2005. Stewart is also the one to thank for running the pool competitions in the GU every Friday night. Or you may not thank him, as it is quite selfish of him to run a tournament on a Friday night which forces you to come out, then you end up steaming, then you end up in the Hive, then you end up with a filthy hangover the next day, then..........ah well maybe you don't do such a good job afterall Stewart!

Mark McBride

Mark
HB Competitive: ??
HB Practice: ??
This essential and vital role on the committee is in extremely SAFE hands this year. In the throne, appropriately to say the least, is the man armed with the tremendous SAFETY game; yes ladies and gentlemen, its the SAFETY genius himself, Mark McBride. Although he is too modest to admit it, last year Mark, representing Glasgow B, went on to produce one of the finest displays of safety snooker ever to have graced the BUSA stage! On a more serious note though, Mark played immense all weekend, and was instrumental in the Junior team returning home with bronze medals, remaining undefeated in the team event throughout. Mark 'The Machine' McBride rounded off last year by claiming the Glasgow University Doubles Championship 2004 with partner Colin Ferguson. McBride has lots going for him, a superb golfer, able to pot balls for fun both left and right-handed, perhaps the only slight area in which he could improve is his problematic LACK of confidence and self-belief! Aye, that will be right!!! He also wants to say he is part of the winning Glasgow side who became Scottish University Pool Champions 2005. Cumon Glasgow!

Alex 'Macca' McTier

Stalwart Macca
HB Competitive: ??
HB Practice: ??
Alex was other founder member of the Committee, and was there since until the end of 2004. The ever-dependable Alex played in three BUSA Championships (2002-2004) representing Glasgow 'B' and was the unpertubable captain of the side in 2003. He brought all his experience to the fore to help his team bring back bronze at the BUSA Championships in 2004. Always keen to play frames whenever possible, Alex proved very difficult for many players to beat with a solid safety game and a highest competitive break of 45. Additionally, had it not been for Macca, GUSC would not have had such good relations with the student newspaper! In his spare time, Alex likes to follow Glasgow Rugby at Hughendon and socialising with friends. He also supports Tottenham FC and whoever Arsenal are playing.

Rowan 'Any Cue Will Do' Todd

Rowan Todd
HB Competitive: ?
HB Practice: ?
Ah! There was only one Rowan Todd - once seen never forgotten. Rowan 'Fine Cut' Todd is a firm friend of the Club and even travels the length of the country to support the Glasgow Team at BUSA. He was a regular in the weekly GUU competition and also in the GUSC Team. Rowan won 2 BUSA medals - a bronze in 2002 and a silver in 2003. He also holds one of the best Scotland Nations Records whilst playing in 3 Nations events and being the most physically flexible member ever. In his spare time Rowan likes to wear scruffy clothes, pick cues off the wall (or curtain poles) and beat people with them - he also loves football and supports Everton.

Allan 'Specky' Wallace

Wallace
HB Competitive: 59
HB Practice: 61
Allan was been a member of the Committee since the Club was founded, originally taking the role of Vice Captain. He was seen more often than any other GUSC member in living history in the Snooker Hall. He only took up the game in October 2001 and has progressed impressively helping Glasgow 'A' to a Bronze medal in his very first year, to Silver medal in 2003 and then playing anchor to bring home Gold in 2004. He has a highest competitive break of 59, and was runner up in the University Championship Singles in 2003 and winner in both 2002 and 2003 of the Doubles. Allan was the first Webmaster of GUSC and designed and maintained this site in 2004. In his spare time, Allan enjoys playing golf and eating unhealthy food. He is also a jammy git and strangely enough supports Middlesbrough FC.

Tom 'Thats a banger of a shirt' Wallace

Gareth at Home Nations 2004
HB Competitive: ?
HB Practice: 61
Everyone associated with snooker at Glasgow remembers Tom Wallace. He was a snooker regular in 2002 and 2003 and remains to this day a firm friend of the Club. He travels the length of the country whenever possible to give vocal support to the Glasgow team. Indeed he was the Team Mascot in 2004, after graduating and finding the real world. He has a thirst for the game and loves nothing better than beating his little brother Allan in University Championships and telling GUSC guru Andrew Booth that he is guff. In his spare time, Tom likes to socialise, exercise and watch DVD's.

David Winter FTW

David FTW Winter
HB Competitive: 52
HB Practice: ?
David was elected to the Committee in April 2003 after his passion for the game was recognised. David was a successful player in the Glasgow 'B' team, and was instrumental in ensuring the pre-qualified status of that team for 2004. He was elected Vice Captain of GUSC in 2003 and captained Glasgow 'B' to the memorable Bronze in 2004. Like all of these people David is a keen player with a highest competitive break of 52. In his spare time, David relaxes in his beloved Peugoet 306, which is often heard around the campus. He aslo likes beer and his playstation.
