Who are GUVZS?
The Glasgow University Veterinary Zoological Society is a student run organisation who aim to inform veterinary students on all subjects exotic. In the early '90s the society was set up by a group of students interested in the exotic side of veterinary medicine. It fills in the gaps left by the current undergraduate course. Amongst the founders, Brendan Godley.
Throughout the three terms there are regular talks organised, covering topics from zoo animal welfare to Hedgehog rehabilitation to exotic tropical reptiles. Kind sponsorship by various companies provides after talk refreshments and a chance to put your questions or opinions to the lecturer. The lecturers are leaders in their field of research and work.
You don't have to be a vet student to join, but you have to know your way to the Vet School! Currently the fee is £5 per annum - soon recuperated in beer and food!
Over the past few years the society has organised a full day symposium
on a range of subjects. This involves lectures and discussion groups aqs
well as some sort of food! Look out for details on the front page closer
to the time!
