Contact Details

Anyone still to add their details to the list should e-mail them to Ian. He will then distribute them all to the committee.

Correspondence

  • We have moved in to Western Court. There is a phone socket: Tony will find out about getting a university extension. There are also two ethernet sockets in each room - Maria has offered her old PC to the society and Laura may have one also. The bookcases from Hillhead Street are too tall for the new office, so the university has them in storage. There is a little-used lighting truss taking up valuable room. We will offer it to STAG in exchange for use of their rehearsal room. It was also pointed out that we should track down the Sweet Charity set, as whoever currently stores it will not do so for much longer: someone will contact Fraser Robertson or Andrea.
  • Harry has requested that we send out e-mails when the website is updated. Ewan will investigate.
  • We received an e-mail from "Out There Enterprises" asking whether we would like to perform their new musical All 4 One, based on The Three Musketeers It was thought to be unsuitable as there are only three female parts. Ewan will send for the free CD regardless.
  • We have received an invoice for £857.20 from Josef Weinberger for Oklahoma!
  • Aileen has received a demand for payment on the Oklahoma! set - we only paid for the transport. Mark will deal.
  • David Glover would like to be involved with our next show.
  • We received affiliation forms et al from the SRC. Our grant this year is £174.35
  • Ian and the Music Club have expressed mutual goodwill between the societies.
  • The bank are sending Lorna a new chequebook. We will keep the one for the costume account just now and Lorna will look into investing the costume account in some form of high interest savings account.

On-line minutes and agenda

It was agreed that personal jokes should not appear on the website. The agenda for any meeting will be agreed at the conclusion of the previous meeting and will be published on the website.

Meeting in QM adjourned at 7.50pm
Meeting reconvened in Western Court office at 8.02pm

Barbecue

John Paul's mum has offered to provide desserts etc. We will buy her flowers as a thank you. The BBQ will start at 3pm. We need to know numbers by Wednesday so that food can be bought. Ask people to e-mail Mark (especially Adele who says she isn't coming). We will prepare as much food as possible at John Paul's house the day before. He has asked that we provide one disposable barbecue, as his isn't quite big enough. The cost will be £5 per head.

Spring Show: Venue

Nicola has contacted various theatres on the assumption that the show will be the week of 25th February - 3rd March 2001. The Eastwood Theatre is quite cheap at £1400 for a 6-day week. Although booked out for 18 months, we should keep it in mind for the future. The King's and the Mitchell are prohibitively expensive, and amateur companies cannot use the Citizens'. The Crawfurd will cost between £1400 and £1700 as last year, with a possible increase of up to £20, and is available for the week we want. Nicola will provisionally book, and we will cancel if any of the Pavilion,Tron,Tramway or Cottiers turn out better. It was pointed out that the Crawfurd Theatre is not easy to find and that we should put up our own signs on the main road. Given the lateness of the hour, further discussion of the spring show was held over until we discussed the progress of the Freshers' Show.

Freshers' Show

Warner Chappell said that rights for Bugsy Malone should be available in October and will cost 12.5% of the box office or £55 (whichever is the greater). Laura will scan in a copy of the script, using OCR software, so that it can be edited and copied. Therefore we should only hire the minimum amount of materials. Qudos should be free on the proposed dates, but there may be a problem with the Wednesday night.

Choosing the Spring Show

It was agreed that the position of director is not a right to which anyone is automatically entitled through previous work for the society. Therefore we will invite anyone who wishes to be considered to come to next week's meeting and bring with them a firm proposal for a show/ why they should direct. They will then be asked to leave the room while a decision is taken. To that end, we will ask people to bring materials e.g. script/score/tape for relevant shows, to allow for a more informed discussion. Nicky has catalogues from Musicscope and Josef Weinberger and will make a preliminary investigation into the availability of rights for shows which are likely to be discussed.

AOCB

Tony and John Paul will begin tidying the office at 10am tomorrow and asked for helpers.
