Commitee Meeting Minutes
Cecilian Society Committee Meeting 7th September 2000, Jim's Bar
Present: Gregor, Lorna, Susan, Laura, Sam, Mark, John Paul, Tony, Nicola, David Doig
Apologies: Ian, Ewan, Sophie, Anne, Johnny
Meeting Opened at 7.15pm
Minutes of Previous Meeting
Proposed - Lorna
Seconded - John Paul
Correspondence
- JP and Tony spoke to the GUU. We did own a piano, but they got rid of it. They're pretty sure we don't own
any others, but will check just in case.
- The society received an e-mail from Ralph Kohn, a former member, enquiring whether or not we would be
doing something for the 50th Anniversary. Gregor replied that we would, but didn't know what yet.
Freshers' Week
The membership fees this year will be: £2 for new members; £4 for returning members; £10 for non-students -
which may possibly be accepted in instalments. We won't give out 'gimmicky' freshers' packs, but will
invite people for a poke in Laura's big furry box, aka 'The Lucky Dip'. Lorna and Susan will get sweets and
one or two miniatures, and will bring their disco balls for the stall. JP and Tony will go to the family planning
clinic. Mark can provide wrapping paper and possibly those little polystyrene pellets to fill the box with. We
will have an evening of wrapping things for the lucky dip, when people can bring photos/posters and we will
choose which ones to display on the stall in a 'Year in the Life of Cecilians' storyboard. Gregor will write the
newsletter. Mark and Tony will do their social calendar (see below) and Mark and Nicky will print double-sided
Bugsy Malone/Anything Goes flyers.
Social
Everyone agreed that we must have a dinner dance and after-show parties. Anything else is just a nice extra.
The last casino night having gone pear-shaped, we will try to have a murder mystery night this Christmas,
possibly in the GUU reading room. Sam knows someone who might be able to get hold of the materials.
- We will have a treasure hunt pub crawl on Friday 13th October, ending up at Cheesy Pop.
- The First Rehearsal (for Anything Goes) will be on Thursday 12th October. The main aim of the evening will
be to integrate old and new members, and conclude with a brief discussion of the show.
AOCB
- It was noted in the previous discussion that name badges would be useful in the first rehearsal. As Bugsy
Malone will be very hectic and unforeseen problems will no doubt arise, the committee should be immediately
recognisable to new members and to that end we will have individual T-shirts made up. Lorna will buy them
tomorrow.
- John Paul's farewell party. His house. Saturday.
- Assorted flatwarmings TBA....
