Commitee Meeting Minutes
Cecilian Society Committee Meeting, 31/5/01, QM
Present: Anne, Sam, Ali, David, Ewan, Adele, Nicky, Gregor, Sally, Tony, Lauren, Ian, Lorna, Karen, Laura
Apologies: Ed, Libby
Meeting Opened at 6.41pm
Minutes of the Previous Meeting
Proposed - Adele
Seconded - Ali
Ian pointed out that the reason he asked for the weekend show vote to be postponed was not because of his
absence, but because the perusal materials had not yet arrived.
Correspondence
- The Crawfurd Meeting is actually on the 11th June
- We now have perusal material for Little Shop of Horrors. Weinberger will only give us 3 perusal scripts, so
Laura hasn't ordered Annie Get Your Gun. The rights for all shortlisted shows are available the week we want.
- The Mitchell will cost £160 less than quoted as they had miscalculated the FOH. Not only would a Monday
get-in eliminate the £180 Sunday staffing costs, it would reduce the tech budget since the technicians get paid
double time on a Sunday. VAT is not chargeable on the rental costs, but is on the rest. We shouldn't need to pay
PRS but should state at time of payment that we are also paying the licensor. Their FOH are willing to sell
programmes, but would take a percentage. They are happy for us to sell our own. They will pre-print all the
tickets at a cost of 10p each - ensuring we can't have double-bookings. We can sell all tickets ourselves/ leave
all at box office/ only leave some. Their box office cut is £50 or 10% of sales, whichever is greater.
- The woman from Curlers cannot guarantee sponsorship as she is leaving in July, but has done the groundwork
with her Regional Product Manager and will write us a letter to that effect.
- The piano is now at concert pitch, and likely to stay there. Dave Wilson will invoice us for £60.
Cheque Book
As she will be the only member of the executive to be in Glasgow all summer, Nicola will look after the cheque
book whilst Tony is in America. As Anne and Gregor will also be away at the start of July, they will ensure that
they leave her some pre-signed cheques, just in case.
Grease Production Team
Interest was expressed as follows:
Directing: Sam, David Glover
MD: David Doig, Gregor - Anne said she would like to do musical stuff, but did not want to be in
overall charge i.e. conducting the band.
Choreography: Jen Morris, Adele
General production stuff: Ian, Laura, Ed
Tech: Ewan
As only the interested musical directors were present, they were sent out the room and it was decided that
Gregor would be the conductor.
Those who couldn't come will be invited to a meeting on Sunday, but Sam spoke now as he can't come then - he
has done 3 sisters in 3 days, apparently.
AOCB
- Socialposse would like an end of term event and suggested getting one of the free buffets at the Hogshead.
- Tony will be having a ned-free barbecue in Bishopbriggs on June 9th.
- He will tidy up the books before he goes.
- Anne expressed concern about the current position of non-elected committee members. She felt that too many
people at meetings was inefficient as demonstrated by last Sunday's meeting. Everyone agreed and it was
decided to re-examine the issue. Since, however, the choir rehearsal was meant to have started 15 minutes ago,
further discussion was adjourned until Sunday.
Next Meeting
Sunday, Western Court, 7pm with David Glover
Meeting Closed at 7.45pm
The sub-committee members having been sent to the bar whilst the last item of competent business was
discussed, the president realised 20 minutes into the choir rehearsal that no one had told them that the meeting
had concluded and hurriedly rescued them from the bar...
