Apologies:

Jenny, Liam, Chris, Cate, Eliza.

Meeting opened: 6.07pm.

1 Correspondence

Nicola had letters from the new and the ex Honorary President. Hugh Gould is pleased to come to the celebrations in October.

2 Affiliation

JP and Tony went to the SRC meeting on 10th June. They found out that we can be affiliated to both Unions if we meet the affiliation rules of both. The GU rules are that there must be a majority of GU members out of those members who arent QM members. We would probably fit with this requirement if we wanted to do so. The GU still charge for room hire even if you are affiliated to them. The society used to be affiliated to the GU so it might be good for the old members who are returning this year. All affiliation to both involves is printing out the membership lists twice we will do it in October generally felt that theres no reason not to.

3 Weekend show

Ali has the contract for BLW and a letter to send with it asking about discounts for the rights. He will put down that the capacity of Qudos is 270.

4 AOCB

Qudos after the disaster of room booking last year, Jamie said they would be introducing written confirmation. This hasnt happened so far. We should ask for written confirmation this year just to make sure it doesnt happen again. Tony will write to the new president of the QM to get this and to find out who the new president is.

JP, and others have organised the music for the 50th concert eg. Arrangements, how to do auditions etc. We may need to hire a piano for the day. Its in the contract that there is a small stand up piano we must pay for it to be tuned if we want to use it. We will check it out before deciding whether to use it or not.

Ali would like to discuss the role of Company Manager, once the production team for the spring show has been picked.

Panto

Suggestions:
  • We could do one at Christmas time for example at 12 hour cheesy pop.
  • Could involve cheesy pop songs, linked by a story written by ourselves. Nicola would be interested in getting involved with co-writing it.
  • Could be rehearsed like the weekend show with a lot of the work being done beforehand.
  • Wouldnt cost us to put one on.
  • Could do it with STAG.

Concerns were raised about the timing. We have the Christmas concert around that time, and also rehearsals for the spring show. Also people have exams in Week 10. People may not have time to do all and so may exclude lots of people. Also while the planning for the weekend show is done in the summer, theres not so much time during term time to do the planning. The production team may not be able to have much of a role in the spring show.

It was agreed that we shouldnt do a panto instead of the Christmas Concert, but there is still the possibility that we could do both. Libby will email the committee to see what the interest is in being involved in the production team for a panto if it meant they may forfeit a part in the spring show.

We also need to find out if Cheesy Pop venue is possible. Tony will ask in the letter he will send to the new president. Nicola will find out if we are singing in the Christmas Concert.

Meeting closed: 6.55pm
