Correspondence

  • We received an e-mail form www.AmateurDramatics.com enquiring whether we want to be listed on their website and if so could we kindly link to their website from ours. Sounds fair enough, so let’s.
  • The radio mic people now know Mark’s new address, but he still hasn’t heard anything from them.
  • Mark’s great gran provided large quantities of sweeties for the munching thereof by the committee. Thank you Mark’s great gran.

Bugsy Malone -A Very Provisional Budget

We decided to work on the usual two-thirds capacity rule, so that’s 200 tickets at a student price of £3.
Income:
200 tickets @ £3 £600
Expenditure:(very approximate)
Payments to Warner Chappell £50
Venue Hire £100? - we need to get the QM to confirm stuff soon.
Photocopying and OHPs £50
Lighting and Sound £100
Costume £100
"Buildy Stuff" (sic) i.e. Technical £100
Posters, Flyers and Programmes £100
Total £600

Miscellaneous points from budget discussion:

  • Given the long-term benefit for the society, we are prepared to take a loss of up to £200, but will try and avoid it at all costs.
  • Mark can get OHPs done at Impac for next to nothing
  • We decided that it is high time the society had a set of treads anyway, so these will be made and are a society expense: hence, not included in the above budget.
  • Qudos currently has a disco lighting rig, which may or may not be sufficient. Mark will have to fiddle with his knobs to find out. We would like a follow spot if at all possible. Probably hired form Northern Light as per usual.
  • Ian was very optimistic about the society’s vocal projection and pointed out that if we can’t get the radio mics for free, we just won’t have any at all. We can probably borrow stand mics from the QM and/or Media Services.
  • 'Costume’ will actually involve scouring charity shops for a few cheap ‘splurgeable’ suits. It is worth remembering that not everyone will need them - really only men. Six is a good number. (Just generally. Thirteen is a bad number. Seven and Eleven can be quite good if you’re playing craps.)
  • We may need sand for the floor to prevent mess, but should remember that it may itself be quite messy and more importantly slippy.
  • We discussed product placement A'la last year. The closest anyone could come to splurge was Tunnock’s snowballs. We could also try to get a cocktails promotion in Qudos.
  • Sam can get splurge guns for 99p each.
