SISP Creel Fishery Questionnaire
The Scottish Industry-Science Partnership (SISP) aims to encourage cooperation between fishermen and scientists in the interests of improving fisheries management.
SISP has funded a project to investigate new ways of surveying fish abundance in nearshore waters.
As part of this study, we are investigating whether incidental catches of fish in baited traps (i.e. creels or pots) set for crabs, lobsters, prawns and related species could provide useful information about the state of inshore fish populations around Scotland. We therefore invite the views of commercial creel or pot fishermen about this through a questionnaire survey.
Once the data have been collected, a summary of the findings will be sent to all respondents for whom we have contact details.
Any details of individuals and vessels will be treated in the strictest confidence. The results will be reported in such a way as to prevent individual respondents from being identified. The project partners have considerable experience of working closely and confidentially with creel and pot fishers.
