Nanotechnology is rapidly moving from the lab into profitable innovative applications. Whereas previously the study of the phenomena of materials and devices at the nanometer scale was of interest to the academic community, today commerce and industry is realising the potential across a wide range of sectors, from ICT and electronics to construction, from medicine to transport and from energy (and energy reduction) to defence and aerospace. Nanotechnology offers ways to create smaller, cheaper, lighter and faster materials, devices and systems that can do more and cleverer things, use less raw materials and consume less energy. The University of Glasgow has proven itself as one of the UK’s (and Europe’s) leading institutions for academic “nano” research encompassing electronics, chemistry, medicine, physics, biological sciences and in most cases the interdisciplinary interfaces between them.

In a commercial context, the emergent and largely unknown nature of nanotechnologies, results in a unique theme of challenges for nanotechnology based companies, regardless of their field or sector.  This workshop is an opportunity to explore and discuss the challenges and opportunities with individuals from a range of backgrounds including those who have successfully commercialised nanotechnology, investors, academics and new start-up businesses.

This workshop is intended to be an interactive opportunity to share opportunities and requirements, where all attendees are participants. This will be a unique opportunity to discuss and debate “nano” and to identify the impact it could have on your business. You will start to forge new partnerships with other participants that can positively impact your future business.

Come prepared to discuss (non-confidentially) your thoughts, interest and experiences in “nano”. You will have the opportunity to present 2 slides on your business and nano opportunity or requirements. Places are limited and priority will be given to those willing to present.
