'From Dyeing Textiles to Colouring Inkjet: Innovation at Fujifilm Imaging Colorants'
Craig Johnston, Technology Manager, Fujifilm Imaging Colorants
Monday 15th November 2010, 6pm
Seminar Room 1 (Yudowitz), Wolfson Medical School Building, University of Glasgow
Innovation may take various forms, and applying well-established technologies and skills to a new area may be one of them. If you look at the history of Fujifilm Imaging Colorants in Grangemouth, for example, you will find that it dates back to 1919 when Scottish Dyes of Grangemouth was established.
In 1928 the company was acquired by ICI, and is now a wholly-owned subsidiary of Fujifilm, Japan. The company’s business has shifted from dyeing textiles to colouring inkjet and beyond. In other words, the company has survived through applying its core technologies to a new material in innovative manners.
Fujifilm Imaging Colorants (FFIC) is a world leader in the development and supply of innovative, high performance colorants for the global digital print market. Mr Craig Johnston, Technology Manager at FFIC has worked for the company for over 20 years, and has witnessed the transformation of the company
This event is organised by the University of Glasgow’s Innovation Network, with support from the Great Britain Sasakawa Foundation.
