Alumni profiles: Guidelines

We’ve put together some guidelines that will help you produce a unique and interesting alumni profile.

Think about your audience

Your profile will form part of an online, searchable database of alumni profiles that will be accessible by students and staff. When you’re answering the questions, try to think about what will be interesting for today’s students to read. What was important to you as a student and what is important to students now may be a little different. Try to draw on your positive experiences both at Glasgow and during your career but most importantly, be as honest and succinct as possible. We want you to enjoy submitting your profile as much as we hope students will benefit from reading them. It’s also an excellent reflective career tool for you. Visit our Featured Profiles to see examples of what other alumni have submitted.

Do you want to participate in the 'Ask Our Alumni' programme?

By including your LinkedIn profile url and not ticking the opt out box, you are agreeing to participate in the 'Ask Our Alumni' scheme. This will mean that students will be able to link directly to your LinkedIn profile and may be able to contact you to ask for informal careers advice. If you’re happy to do this, then you will be helping the next generation of Glasgow graduates. However, you are not obliged to do so. If you do opt out, your profile will still be viewable, but you will not be contactable. Once you submit your profile, you will be invited to join the University of Glasgow Careers Network LinkedIn group. This will make it easier for students to contact you.

Should you wish at any point in the future to no longer participate in ‘Ask our Alumni’, please contact Pete Speak at the Development & Alumni Office.

Answer the questions that are relevant to you

We have tried to include as many questions as possible in the profile form so that our students can get as much relevant information as possible. We do appreciate that some questions might not be relevant to you so only answer the questions that you want to. We will edit your profile once submitted to make sure that there are no text gaps.

We may edit your profile

The main reason we edit profiles is to ensure they are correctly formatted once they have been published. This is why we reserve the right to edit your content, but be assured that we will always do this sympathetically. The University also reserves the right to not include your alumni profile as part of the online database. Further details as to why this may happen can be found in our Terms and Conditions.

Privacy

We appreciate that our alumni may not wish their personal opinions or LinkedIn profile url to be openly available which is why we have decided that these profiles will only be accessible to staff and students. If you have any further questions regarding privacy, please contact:
