S5 Reach written assignment
During the S5 school session, pupils are asked to discuss a subject-specific topic. The discussions held during the school session will form the basis of a discursive essay.
You will be assessed on your written submission and the grades you achieve will form part of your overall Reach profile which will support your application to Law, Veterinary Medicine, Medicine or Dentistry at Glasgow. As always if you have any questions make sure you ask your Reach tutor.
You should aim to complete as much of this as you can in the S5 school session however, we are trying to encourage independent study so have asked that you do some work outside of the classroom.
Your final written submission should be a maximum of 750 words (minimum 500 words), two weeks after your school session. It should refer to at least two different sources and include a bibliography (references and bibliography are not included in the word count).

S5 Reach summer school
The week-long summer school will run in June and is a great opportunity to experience University life through lectures, seminars and practical experience all based in the schools of the four professional degrees.
"I enjoyed all parts of the summer school and I found it really useful and interesting. It was fun and informative at the same time." - Pupil feedback on the 2011 summer school
At the University of Glasgow campus in June, you will take part in either a mock PBL session (Medicine) a moot (Law) or a tutorial style discussion (Vet Med and Dentistry) on your chosen question. This will give you the chance to discuss your written assignment with other pupils and current university students. For pupils taking part in the moot this may not be on the prisoner's voting rights but will likely be based on work done during that week.
"An extremely enjoyable and inspirational week" - Law pupil on the 2011 summer school
Pupils will be assessed on their participation during the summer school. This grade will form part of your Reach profile which is passed on to university admissions officers as part of the application process. It is important, therefore, to take part in the discussion and really make the most of this experience.
