The 2013 University of Glasgow Summer School is coming to a close having given 158 students the chance to get first hand experience of life as a university student.

Running since 1997 the University of Glasgow Summer School is designed to help school pupils prepare for life at university by giving them a mini university experience. Students choose two subjects and are taken through a course pitched at first year university level and taught in a university manner. Students attend lectures, tutorials and labs with a wide variety of students from differing backgrounds and age groups. As this happens in Summer when campus is quiet it offers students a way to experience all aspects of student life without the pressure of a busy campus around them.

The classes available give students a wide variety of options and learning styles. Biology has incorporated practical elements to their course including a sheep heart dissection whilst Computing Science students were designing mobile apps. The variety in classes ensures students are aware that the manner in which you are taught at university is different to school and helps students adjust to this change prior to starting first year.
