Openness in action

Being part of Glasgow is about what you want to achieve and who you want to be. That’s why the University has a range of initiatives in place to make sure that everyone has the opportunity to make the most of their future at Glasgow.

These initiatives:

  • help potential students from areas and groups where there is traditionally low participation in higher education to consider university as an option
  • provide support for students once they have entered University to make sure they can complete their studies; and
  • make our learning opportunities flexible.

Our participation in the Top-Up Programme, for example, is designed to help S5 and S6 pupils make the transition from school to university by making them aware of the realities of study at this level. Top-Up runs in schools from December to April, with 11 school sessions and two campus sessions at one of the higher education institutions in the West of Scotland. Our fully trained tutors teach participants vital skills for independent learning, such as note-taking, decision-making and essay writing.
