The University of Glasgow is in the top 15 most environmentally friendly universities in the world and only 2nd in Europe, according to Grist magazine. The award-winning Wolfson Medical School Building uses glass walls, meaning that lighting is not needed during the day, but at night is controlled centrally to use as little electricity as possible.

Part of the University campus, the Hunterian Art Gallery houses collections by artists such as Rembrandt, Stubbs, Chardin, Pissaro and Rodin as well as Europe's largest display of works by the American artist James McNeill Whistler.

Housed on Level 12 of the library, the University's Special Collections has an unrivalled collection of manuscripts and printed works, as well as impressive views across the city.

Glasgow's new state- of-the-art Computing Science extension has been named after former University Principal and Vice Chancellor Sir Alwyn Williams (1921-2004).

Some of the University departments are situated along University Avenue, an elegant, tree-lined terrace directly opposite the main building.

Since 2001 the University has invested more than £50m into medical facilities in Glasgow, completing a biomedical 'Triangle of Excellence' on the University campus made up of the British Heart Foundation/Glasgow Cardiovascular Research Centre, the Wolfson Medical School building and the Glasgow Biomedical Research Centre.

Teachers from Manchester to Malawi, Surrey to South Africa are trained at the University's Faculty of Education within the award-winning St Andrews Building.

The Faculty of Veterinary Medicine Graduate School is based within the Henry Wellcome Building of Comparative Medical Sciences, which provides first-class laboratory and office space for researchers and postgraduate students on the University's Garscube Estate.
